Today I am going to finish Doubt.
I must say that it is a good movie thus far. Character development is perfect while offering great suspense and, well, doubt. I suppose this is the idea, but I rarely see a movie with any character development these days. If you count the lines of dialogue in a film you may find there are only 20 lines in a 2.5 hour movie. I was okay with this for a long time; just happy to be entertained. However, in the last few weeks I have noticed myself becoming more and more critical of the movies I am watching. I almost always talk at the movie in disgust now and find it rather enjoyable to do so. I wonder now why movies have become almost an hour longer than they used to while not adding any additional content. How can you make a 2.5 hour movie feel like a 1.5 hour movie? Pump up the action. Car chases are sooooo long now. It feels like you are in the car chase scene for half the movie, I don't care what action movie you're watching. What is the obsession with car chases? Speed? Loud noise? Devastation?
I need better entertainment. I think perhaps I will move on to classic movies to see if they are any better. At least I know that the writers of classic movies were actual story writers not CGI specialists. Classics have to have better dialogue right?
